Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep disorder that causes a person to stop breathing repeatedly during sleep. Recurrent pauses in breathing may cause reduction of oxygen going to the lungs, affecting oxygen supply to other vital organs. This chronic condition can cause damages to organs, especially to the brain and heart.
In addition medical problems, sleep apnea also can cause a variety of symptoms such as snoring and poor quality of sleep. These symptoms may lead to a decrease in the quality of life.
